Men performing waswas tambia songs the morning after a memorial feast. 5. Jeffry Uli (left, in blue shirt) recording traditional stories in a nakamal at Maewo, Ngota village. 6. Detail of na ole costume, man from Qatiaqoli Maewo. 7. Men listening to playback of waswas tambia, same as No. 4. 8. Jeffery Uli 9. Adolescent was Na Ole costume. (Not yet full custom?) 10. George Boe. At the time (June 1977) head of council of chiefs with flag he designed. Compare with door in No.19. 11. J-F Ardingi with newly made irrigated taro garden near Ngota, Maewo. 12. George Boe inspects Tagaro’s “writing” at Gobio, Maewo Rather tabmu, but George says okay for you to see in New Zealand. ['tabmu' is most likely a typo, the intended word is probably 'tambu'] 18. Man with two combs with hair from his son and daughter applied with natural gum. 19. Jeffery Uli, his and his father. The sasa indicated rank in Qat Barqu society. 20. Dancers perform extract from Qat Baraqu (public section) rites for Maewo flag day. Compare slide No. 10. PC1-39-03: Tasmauri PC1-39-05, PC1-39-08 and PC1-39-19 depicts Jeffery Uli who worked closely with Crowe on The Oral Traditions Project, Uli also continued making recordings long after Crowe left Vanuatu. Recordings made by/of Jeffrey Uli are in the VKS2 collection. (In the VKS2 collection Jeffery is referred to by both his shortened surname and full surname ‘Jeffery Uli Meruana’) PC1-39-17 as mentioned in PC1-39-00, 'Tambu' in Bislama is similar to 'taboo'.
