The two continued arguing. As they argued, they made a bet: the loser would have his eyes gouged out. As they continued their journey, they encountered a man cutting thatch grass. The two asked him, "Friend, in this world, are bent things better?" "Or are straight things better?" The man cutting thatch grass answered, "Ah, bent things are better." "With this bent sickle, I cut grass and make my living." "Bent things are better." Then, the man who argued that bent things were better said, "See, I win!" And he tried to gouge out the eyes of his friend. The man who had argued for straight things pleaded, "Wait!" "Let's ask more people." "Please don't take my eyes." As they continued their journey, they came across a man plowing a rice field and asked him, "Hey, friend, in this world, are bent things better?" "Or are straight things better?" The man plowing the field answered, "Oh, bent things are better." "With this bent ploughshare, I plow the fields and make my living." "Bent things are better."
